Today’s a snow day for Walker County Schools, and considering a forecast of temperatures at or below freezing until at least Wednesday it may turn into a snow week transitioning into an extended Christmas Break. In honor of that, consider this an “open thread” for you to discuss anything you want. Christmas past or present, the weather, local schools, tonight’s LaFayette city council meeting (not canceled so far), the county’s potential investment into a hotel on Lookout Mountain, law enforcement, loved or hated local businesses, LaFayette Underground, local charities, or anything else on your mind.

Monday Closings: Walker County Schools, Chickamauga City Schools, Dade, Catoosa, Whitfield schools, Oakwood Academy, Walker Transit (late, opens at 12), Walker DFCS, Georgia Northwestern Tech, Walker Co Senior Center, Walker Co Health Department (2 hour delay), Wee-Care FBC. List will be updated as needed.

  3. Sasquatch lives near Pettyjohn’s Cave. I know this to be true because I made it up. Also, Wal-Mart is partnered with Homeland Security now. Both are urging everyone to spy on everyone and to turn them in if they are doing “anything suspicious” but fail to define what “suspicious” means. What better way for Big Brother to keep a watchful eye on his cohorts than to invade our only source of material well-being. My Sasquatch story is false, but I can’t make the rest of this stuff up.

Why is e-mail a required field if this is supposed to be anonymous?

  4. Michelle: no idea what the stated reasons (or possibly different real reasons) are supposed to be. Guess we’ll find out at the meeting.

David: These are environmental problems related to the existing golf course and related developments there, correct?

Baby Sas: E-mail is required to prove you’re real, but some people throw in a fake address and it accepts that anyway. Nobody sees the e-mail you put in except the site administrator, who can also see your network address. So you’re anonymous except to the site administrator, and we’re good at keeping secrets.

  5. Robbie Tate was fired by Freeman for having his personal vehicle painted by state prisoners working at the LPD in 2004 or 2005. His truck was damaged while hauling equipment for the LPD and Chief Richardson gave him permission to have it done. It technically violates federal law, having a prisoner repair someone’s personal vehicle, but Tate used his personal vehicle for the service of the city.

Back in July Freeman demoted Tate because the officer said he had no confidence in Freeman as police chief. Then on December 2nd he was let go for this incident in 2005.

Freeman was pissy the whole time, yelled at the crowd… Meeting was standing-room only, biggest crowd seen there since the cemetery incident last year. Lots of people wearing “reinstate tate” paper badges. Tate had a good lawyer and Freeman went down looking like the complete ass he is. City council met in private tonight for 58 minutes and voted 3-2 to put Tate back on the force.

We’ll put up a full report about the November AND December council meetings soon. Thanks for reading, and thanks to all the LU readers who showed up for the meeting tonight. If we had that kind of crowd every month this bunch wouldn’t last long.

  6. #1.) That’s just the Arnold gene-pool contamination coming to the surface, and…

#2.) Can anybody tell me when (ball-park…) this bunch of CLOWNS became concerned about infractions of a legal nature on ANY level (State/local/ Federal/common decency) ?

  7. LU that is Correct. That is a history of all the issues the development has had with GA EPD. Copies of the Orders are public record and con be obtained through GAEPD red tape but they would go into more detail of what happened in each instance.

  8. Apparently the Linwood Arsonist is going to be in court this week facing charges of breaking into vehicles and tampering with government property. Dumb kid, he should have known not to mess with government property – that’s something local leaders actually care about. If he limited it to just raping little girls and burning houses in Linwood nobody would do anything, but he got brave and touched something of the city’s. Now lets see what kind of hand-slap sentence Judge Henry hands down. I’ll bet you a steak he’s back out on the street within six weeks, after which the fires will resume again.

  9. During the council meeting did they mention who the snitch was that told on Tate and why in the world would anyone do that to another one of there own. is it someone who is trying to suck up or something cause thats usually what it is about. Can you really demote someone for lack of confidence. I am not sure the reason he was fired was the real reason the chief let him go. I want to know the real reason behind all this. I also want to know why the person that told on him done that. that person would have to be a total piece of s_ _t to bring up somethin that was 5 or 6 years old. disgustin

on the arsnist was the arsnist a juvie or something. some workers said Henry is a juvie judge and only sees kids. if it is a kid what was a kid doing at the fire hall. does insurance cover kids if they get hurt on city property.

I see votes were 3-2 on Tate hearing. i am in total shock someone must been sick last night its normal for 5-5. who voted to let tate go so i can vote against their but in elections.

what we need is hire more people out of town so it goes to total shit. it on the way now

  10. You people really need to use spell check.

  11. I discovered some very troubling information concerning FARM BUREAU INSURANCE the other day. I was traveling down North Main and noticed a sign by the side of the road at The Tradin’ Post antique/collectible/furniture/everything you need store. The sign said FARM BUREAU … BAD INSURANCE.

Having been born here, and spending the last 50 years in this area and hearing nothing but kudos for FARM BUREAU INSURANCE I was intrigued and stopped to inquire. It turns out that the family of Billy Fields was robbed twice. Once by a band of low-level thugs and once by a band of high-level thugs masquerading as a legitimate insurance company.

Billy, for those of you who don’t know him is one of the most honest and hard-working people you will ever meet. After appx 20 years of paying $5000.00 a year in premiums to the FARM BUREAU INSURANCE CO, Billy was informed that his claim to replace the stolen merchandise was assessed at a fraction of what the said merchandise was actually worth. The figure according to insurance peddler Mike McRae(sp) was determined by looking on eBay and also in pawn shops to assess the value of Mr. Fields belongings. Mr. Fields tried to explain that he did not buy his merchandise in pawn shops or eBay and that the figure was a severe low-ball price. This was all falling on deaf ears though and Billy was forced to accept a mere fraction of what should have been replacement value of his belongings.

It seems that the insurance providers employed by the FARM BUREAU INSURANCE CO are stone cold idiots and/or outright greedy lowlife thieves. How anyone could work there and lay down at night with a clear conscience is beyond me.

There will be a rude awakening for many families when it comes time to make a claim against their policies. I would encourage everyone who has FARM BUREAU INSURANCE to take a copy of this letter and go have a pow-wow with their agent immediately. Find out the truth before it’s too late. I would also encourage anyone with FARM BUREAU INSURANCE to start shopping for another provider and be ready to switch when your policy expires. FARM BUREAU … BAD INSURANCE!!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!!

  12. It looks like this FARM BUREAU INSURANCE thing has real legs. I just came upon a website that is totally dedicated to those who are the victims of FARM BUREAU INSURANCE. Here’s a link for those interested.

  13. its not just farm bureau insurance its all of them.

  14. Not true. I have filed claims with ALFA and also State Farm for theft over the last few years and both paid without any hassle, and paid replacement value. Farm Bureau has sold out to the big bank and could care less about policy holders. Look at the billboard in front of the office … “Get Your Farm Bureau Credit Card”

    They are liars and thieves.

  15. well i filed a claim with state farm and they wouldn’t pay. i had to pay out of pocket.

  16. A claim for what? What was the reason they wouldn’t pay? Who is your agent? I’ve been doing business with them for 20 years and I’m curious as to why you weren’t paid. I would like to talk to the agent myself. If you have a legitimate beef I’d like to know what the problem was.
